BOROFFICE,LP SENATORIAL CANDIDATE BAGS SPACE SCIENCE AWARD

The Oka Akoko born Labour Party Senatorial flagbearer and former Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Professor Robert Ajayi Boroffice, has been conferred with the 2011 Golden Merit Award in Space Science by the World Federation of Science Journalists, in collaboration with Nigerian Association of Science Journalists.

At a ceremony in Abuja, to mark the International Science Communicators Conference, the body lauded the efforts of Professor Boroffice in the successful take-off of the NASRDA, which is today the leading space agency in Africa.

The immediate past president of the Nigeria Association of Science Journalists, Mr Hamisu Mohammed, said the award was in recognition of the contributions of Professor Boroffice to the advancement of space science and technology.

He described him as an erudite scholar and distinguished scientist, whose efforts and roles in space technology would continue to serve as reference point in Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.

Boroffice, who was represented on the occasion by the Director-General, NASRDA, Dr Seidu Mo-hammed, thanked the association for the honour.

A former Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Turner Isoun, who was also honoured by the association, described the awards as inspiring and heartwarming, and, therefore, thanked the association for the awards.
